South Scene

There was no South of Scotland action on the field last weekend throughout the region due to the heavy rain water-logging pitches overnight on Friday but earlier in the week there was action off the park when the Southern Counties Executive Committee convened to consider several urgent matters.
At this special meeting the Castle Douglas based South of Scotland League champions Threave Rovers were fined £300 and denied any further involvement in two cup competitions in which they had progressed while playing an un-registered player.
The sanctions came about because of registration problems with a player which came to light when he went on loan to another Club. The executive fined the Club £100 for playing the player in each of the Potts Cup and the South of Scotland League Cup and a further £100 because he had also played in South of Scotland League matches where the team-sheets had contained clerical errors regarding the same player. It has also been confirmed that the Club have received a letter of resignation from club secretary Hugh Robertson who has held the post since the beginning of the season.
Threave were due to play St Cuthbert Wanderers in the semi-final of the League Cup last Saturday but the game was re-scheduled at Meadow Park as a South League match however it was eventually postponed due to a water-logged pitch.
At the same Meeting Fleet Star were fined £100 for playing an on-loan player in a Cup match which is against the Southern Counties Football Association constitution. The Gatehouse Club admitted the mistake but had been unaware of the conditions attached to on-loan players but now realise that the player should not have been fielded.
An appeal from Newton Stewart Football Club who were fined £150 for non-attendance at a recent South Meeting was over ruled and it was re-enforced that the Club had to pay the fine. The circumstances for the non-attendance where the Club representative had taken ill en route to the Meeting venue was not accepted and the matter is now being appealed through the Scottish Football Association. |
